Apparently, Becky Culp doesn't understand the concept of building up to a climax . The Piper senior picked up right where she left off after an outstanding junior campaign by winning both the shot put and weight throw titles at last Friday's Carleton Invitational. Culp's winning shot put distance was a new personal best, and a fieldhouse record. In addition to being honored by HU, Culp was named the first MIAC Women's Field Athlete-of-the-Week for the 2013 season.
Culp's tremendous shot put performance included a winning distance of 13.86 meters, or 45-5.75 feet. It was her new PR by more than a full foot, and it lead all 2013 MIAC throwers by more than five feet. The tremendous throw is the second-best distance recorded so far in all of Division III. Culp also claimed victory in the weight throw with a distance of 15.39 meters, or 50 feet, six inches. That distance ranks second in the MIAC this season, behind teammate Shawny Kramer (16.03 meters).
Culp and her teammates take a well-deserved breal before returning to competition at Bethel on Feb. 2.
