Rigoberto Arellano engineered a Pipers defense that opened the season with back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2014, and surrendered just one shot on goal in each match of a 2-0 win over UW-Stout on August 30, and a 6-0 victory over Northland on September 1. The San Diego, California native also netted the game-winning goal on just one shot attempt in each of those games, and added an assist against Northland. Arellano finished the week with two goals and one assist as a defender.
