He scored the second goal of the season ... and he scored the last one. And he added a lot of point in-between.

Kevin Novakovich finished the year strong, leading the Piper men's hockey team in points with 17 on nine goals and eights assists.

He was very sharp last weekend, snaring three goals and an assist in the Pipers' home-and-home series against St. Mary's. In the opener, the sophomore twice scored goals to put HU in front (at 1-0 and 3-2) only to see the host Cardinals rally for an OT win.

He had the last word Sunday in an 8-3 loss.

The California native's final totals doubled his output from his freshman season -- giving Piper puck followers reason to be hopeful in 2014-15.
