Box Score

The Piper men's hockey team put a third period surge but couldn't find the net in a 4-0 loss to Lake Forest in the opener of a two-game non-conference series in Vadnais Heights.

HU was in trouble right away, giving up a goal in the first minute of play. They allowed a power play goal eight minutes into the period and then played the Foresters toe to toe through the end of that period and a scoreless second.

In the third, Hamline pressed the attack, outshooting LFC, 13-5. But the visitors scored both goals of the period to drop the Pipers to 0-8-1 on the season. Matt Hemingway recorded 20 saves in goal for HU, which ended up being outshot only by 24-23 for the game.

The team have a rematch in Vadnais Heights Saturday at 5 p.m.
