Late Womens Hoop Rally Comes Up Just Short

1/9/2013 11:25:00 PM

Box Score Steph Pilgrim (pictured) continued her torrid shooting but the Piper women's basketball team just missed completing an enormous rally and took a 73-71 loss to St. Olaf in Northfield Wednesday night.

Hamline trailed by 15 points (61-46) with 10:34 to play when they began to mount a serious rally. Pilgrim connected on six three-pointers and scored 23 of her game high 27 points in the second half to key the rally. The senior has now scored 113 points in her last five games and has taken over the league lead in scoring at 16.2 points per game.

The 27 points is also one short of her career high set last year in the season finale at Macalester.

Teammate Jordan Sammons was equally effective, scoring 20 points and corraling a game high nine rebounds. She ranks a close second in the loop at 15.8 ppg.

Four starters -- Pilgrim, Sammons, Je'Naya Brown and Kara Poirier -- played 30 minutes or more as HU inched closer and closer to the Oles in the late stages.

Hamline, however, fell to 4-5 in the MIAC, 4-8 overall. The Pipers finish off a stretch of five games in 10 days this Saturday at Concordia.
