Box Score Brandon Zurn (pictured shooting) continues to make a name for himself with two goals and an assistant but Gustavus had too much firepower and defeated the Pipers, 7-4, in a freewheeling MIAC game played in Rosemount Friday night.

With 16 points this season (seven goals, nine assists), Zurn has been among the top first year players all season. He connected twice 61 seconds apart in the first period to stake the Pipers (1-16-5, 1-9-3 MIAC) to a 2-1 lead before the Gusties scored six straight goals to put the game out of reach.

The Pipers trailed 1-0 when Zurn finished off a power play at 14:31 and then soloed in at 15:32. Gustavus, however, knotted the score at 2 less than a minute later and then unloaded four unanswered goals in the second stanza to put the game away.

GAC added another in the third period only to see Austin Cihak and Grant Fahnhost respond 40 seconds apart to make things interesting. HU then had a power play chance but failed to convert and the Gusties rode out the storm for the win.

Matt Hemingway started in goal, playng the first 28:09, allowing five goals. Nick Heimer went the rest of the way, holding the Gusties to a pair.

The teams face off again Saturday, Feb. 2 in St. Peter at 7:05 p.m.
