The HU men's hockey team hit on a pair of power plays in a 4-2 loss to St. Olaf Saturday at OscarJohnson Arena. Unfortunately, the Oles shook off this double drag to score the last two goals of the game and sweep the weekend series.
Joe Rubbelke and Kevin Novakovich had the goals for HU, which rallied from a 2-0 first period deficit to tie the game. Nick Heimer recorded 35 saves in the HU net, several of them when the Oles had back to back man advantages in the second period.
But it wasn't enough to keep the Pipers from falling to 2-12-0 overall, 1-5 in the MIAC.
Hamline trailed 2-0 when Rubbelke (7) Â took advantage of a rare 4-on-3 advantage to whistle a shot from the slot home in the seocnd period.Â
It was still 2-1 in the third when Novakovich broke free for a solo effort at 6:49 to knot the game at 2.
STO regained the lead two minutes later and put the game out of reach with a shorthanded goal in the waning seconds.
Hamline returns to MIAC play next weekend against St. Thomas. The teams play Friday night in Mendota Heights and Saturday at Oscar Johnson.
