Hamline (4-13 overall, 3-11 MIAC) actually outrebounded the Blazers, 47-46.
Jordan Sammons, who recorded her 13th double-double of the season and
Emily Behrman led the way with 11 each. A ballhawking Piper defense came up with a dozen steals and forced 24 turnovers.
Chelsey Bonsante (with ball), who torched the Blazers for 27 points in their first meeting, was afire in the second half, scoring 12 of her team high 18 points. (Sammons added 16).
But HU shot just 32 per cent from the field (27-84) for the game. They also made just five trips to the free throw line all night.
St. Ben's led 29-25 at halftime. They quickly stretched it to 13 early in the second half only to see Bonsante ignite a rally that got Hu within four at 50-46 with 6:21 left.
That was as close as Hamline would get, though.
The Pipers now head on the road for the next two games. But they are shotr trips. They play at Macalester Saturday (1:00 p.m.) and at St. Thomas on Monday (7:30 p.m.)
