Box Score

As the Hamline hockey season continues, new faces are starting to emerge at the forefront.

Welcome aboard, Chris Williford

The freshman recorded his first two goal game Friday in the Pipers' 3-2 loss to St. John's at Oscar Johnson Arena. In doing so, Williford moved into a tie with Kevin Novakovich for the team lead with five tallies.

HU was trailing 1-0 late in the second period when Williford (16) redirected Brandon Zurn's feed home from short range. Andrew Carlson drew the second assist on the goal at 16:18.

The Johnnies, fighting for a playoff spot, scored twice 51 seconds apart early in the third period to grab a 3-1 lead. But Williford halved that margin, finishing off a three-way play with Andrew Herbert and Zurn. Hamline continued the pressure the rest of the way, helped in part by a power play.  Piper goalie John Sellie-Hanson, who stopped 22 shots, was pulled for a sixth attacker in the final minute. But the Johnnies held firm to drop HU to 2-17-1 on the season (1-10 in the MIAC).

The teams go back at it Sagturday at 2 p.m. at the National Sports Center.
