Box Score Charlie Adams and John Sellie-Hanson play at opposite ends of the ice. But both were equally effective as the Hamline men's hockey team completed a sweep of Bethel with a 4-0 win Saturday in Blaine.Â
Adams scored the game's first three goals to stretch his league leading total to 19 for the season. His 43 points overall leads all of Division III men's players (Linemate Brandon Zurn, who assisted on two goals, is one behind at 42).Â
Meanwhile, at the other end of the ice, Sellie-Hanson turned away all 19 shots sent his way for his first shutout of the season and third of his college career.
The win elevated Hamline to 17 points and fifth place -- the last playoff spot -- in the MIAC. The Pipers, who stand 5-6-1 in league play (8-9-4 overall) have a one point advantage over St. Mary's. Each team has four games left to play.Â
As was the case Friday night, HU jumped the Royals in the first period. Adams scored twice just 1:48 apart late in the session for a 2-0 advantage after 20 minutes. The senior center then delivered a dagger when he finished off his hat trick with just two seconds remaining in the middle session. Garret Schmitz capped the night with a power play in the third period as Hamline continued a late surge that has seen them go 4-2-1 in their last seven games.Â
Sellie-Hanson (pictured) did the rest, knocking aside the six shots sent his way in the final stanza.Â
Hamline returns to action with a two game series against MIAC league leader Augsburg (8-1-1 in MIAC play). The teams face off Friday, February 5 in Minneapolis and have a return engagement Saturday at Oscar Johnson Arena. Game time both nights is 7:00 p.m.
