Box Score Darby Dodds was the Alpha and the Omega for the HU women's hockey team Friday in their MIAC opener against St. Olaf in Northfield. The Byron, Minn. junior set up the team's first goal and scored the eventual game winner in a 3-2 decision over the Oles at Northfield Arena.
Hamline improved to 3-1 overall with their second straight road victory. But it wasn't easy.
Dodds set up
Bre Simon to give Hamline a 1-0 first period lead. The Oles tied the game in the second period and it stayed stuck at 1 until
Courtney Koemptgen finished off a three-way play at 13:43 of the final frame. 93 seconds later, Dodds accepted a feed from
Sadie Baker and deposited her third goal of the season to make it 3-1. The Oles pulled their goalie and snuck a shot past HU netminder
Annie Juergens with 18.6 seconds remaining to get within one.
But that was as close as they would get.
Juergens, a freshman, earned her second straight win in goal with an impressive 31 save effort. 25 of those saves came in the final two periods. In two games, she has knocked away 56 of the 61 shots sent her way.
Both teams will have a quick turnaround. The rematch is Saturday, November 12 at Oscar Johnson Arena. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
