Box Score The Hamline men's hockey team fired a lot of shots Thursday -- 41 of them in all. But St. John's goaltender Tyler Nelson repelled 39 of them and HU ended up with their first loss of the season, 4-2, at the National Hockey Center.

Dan Bartkowiak scored for HU, which is now 4-1-2 overall and 2-1-0 in the MIAC. Wahlin finished off a three-way play with St. Cloud native
Mitch Hall and linemate
Mitch McPherson for his third goal of the year 13:30 into the second period. That tally tied the game at 1, a score that remained until the final minute of the period. SJU scored again in the third but Bartkowiak (pictured) retaliated at 11:34 to pull the Pipers within a goal at 3-2. The Johnnies put up a power play marker three minutes later to finish the scoring.
Justin Quale had 29 saves in goal with a dozen in the final period.
Russ Jordan had six shots on goal and Hall added five for HU.
The team have a rematch Friday night at Oscar Johnson Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
