Box Score Playing on the road is tough enough. Falling behind early to a team that is undefeated on the season is a tall order to overcome.
Such was the case for the Hamline women's basketball team in their conference opening 82-62 loss at Augsburg Wednesday night.
Chloe Graves scored 14 points,
Reilly Geistfeld (35) had 13 and
Alaina Quaranta added 12 but the Auggies, who are 6-0 on the season, grabbed the lead early and never let go. Geistfeld also had a game high10 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double.
A free wheeling first quarter saw HU within sight of the Auggies at 24-18. Quaranta, who transferred from Augsburg to HU this year, hit a pair of second quarter jumpers that sliced the lead to one at 27-26 with 6:12 left in the half. Augsburg, however, closed with a 10-2 run for a 37-28 halftime edge. A 14-5 Auggie surge to open the third quarter seemed to break the game open. The Pipers, however, fought back to get within 11 early in the final stanza. Another Auggie outburst, however, led to the final margin of victory.
Hamline is now 3-2 overall. They play their next two games at Hutton Arena, hosting Bethel on Saturday, December 3 at 1:00 p.m. and St. Thomas on Saturday, December 7 at 7:00 p.m.
