Box Score Chelsey Bonsante joined a select group of players Saturday. And she did it with style.Â
The junior guard nailed a three-pointer with 1:05 left in the first half to become the 10th player in Hamline women's basketball history to score 1,000 points. The Ironton, Minn. native went on to record a game high 19 counters in all as the Pipers battled co-league leader St. Thomas hard before dropping a 76-56 decision at Hutton Arena.Â
Bonsante, who leads the Pipers (and ranks fourth in the conference) with a 16.1 points per game average. She now has 1,009 points in 70 career games here.Â
Hamline came out strong defensively. The Pipers led most of the first quarter, ending on a great note as an Allison Bartak jumper at the buzzer gave them a 14-12 edge. UST responded with a big 29-15 advantage in the second quarter to lead 41-29 at intermission. They scored the first seven points of the third quarter and kept the Pipers at arm's length from there.Â
Chloe Graves and Emily Behrman had four steals apiece as HBU forced the Tommies into 13 turnovers. Haley Greene led all rebounders with seven. Jessica Beamon had a career high six points.Â
HU stands 3-18 overall, 1-13 in the MIAC. They return to action Wednesday, February 10 against Concordia as part of a men's-women's doubleheader at Hutton. Game time is approximately 7:45 p.m.
