Simon 3 Point Night Paces W Hockey Past Blazers

11/10/2017 10:29:00 PM

Box Score It took a while --  a little more than 16 1/2 minutes to be precise  -- but Bre Simon found her scoring touch Friday night for the Hamline women's hockey team against St. Benedict at Oscar Johnson Arena. The sophomore scored two late first period goals and assisted on a third tally as HU finished a sweep of the Blazers to improve to 2-0 in MIAC play and 3-1 on the season.

Despite a 53-15 edge in shots on goal, this was a tough slog for Hamline.

Simon's first goal -- a tip of a Xilly Lang shot -- evened the score at 1-1 at 16:36. Simon scored again in the final minute to give HU a 2-1 lead at the first intermission. Taylor Ramthun made it 3-1 in the second period but the Blazers responded late in the period and it was a tense 3-2 score entering the third frame.

Courtney Koemptgen made everybody breathe a little easier at 3:54. Sarah Bobrowski, who also had an assist, and Darby Dodds (who had two assists) added frosting on the cake to make the home opener a happy occasion.

McKenna Hulslander had 13 saves in goal to earn the win.

The Pipers have one series before a break for Thanksgiving. Gustavus Adolphus visits Oscar Johnson next Friday, November 17 at 7:15 p.m. The Pipers and Gusties also meet the next afternoon in St. Peter.
