W Hockey Rally Falls Short at Gustavus

11/18/2017 4:01:00 PM

Box Score Sarah Bobrowski and Xilly Lang teamed up for a pair of goals but Gustavus Adolphus held off Hamline's women's hockey team in the late going and dealt the Pipers a 4-2 loss Saturday in St. Peter. HU saw its four-game winning streak end and dropped to 4-2 on the season, 3-1 in the MIAC.

It was the reverse of Hamline's 5-2 win Friday night win at Oscar Johnson Arena -- the school's first women's hockey win ever over GAC. The Gusties used a shorthanded goal, a power play goal, and an even strength marker to jump to a 3-0 first period lead. It was 4-0 when Bobrowski finished off a three-way play with Lang (pictured) and Becca Zarembinski for her team leading fifth goal of the season late in the second period. Lang then set up Bobrowski for her second goal of the afternoon early in the third period to make it 4-2 but that was close as HU could get. The senior was the most dangerous HU forward all afternoon, registering eight of the team's 26 shots on goal. The Pipers threatened late when GAC took a penalty with three minutes left in regulation time. Head coach Natalie Darwitz pulled her goalie for a two player advantage but GAC held firm.

Mckenna Hulslander handled the net in the first period and took the loss. Annie Juergens worked the final 40 minutes in goal.

The Pipers are off until December 1 when they host St. Catherine at Oscar Johnson Arena. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
