Box Score That was quite an opening act to the MIAC season for the Hamline women's hockey team. The Pipers knocked St. Benedict on its heels early and never let up for an 8-0 decision Thursday in the MIAC Opener for both teams.
Darby Dodds and
Sarah Bobrowski scored twice each with
Bre Simon,
Kaitlyn Davidson,
Becca Zarembinski and
Jordan Hansen adding solos as HU improved to 2-1 overall on the season. The Pipers fired 42 shots on goal at two Blazer goaltenders. CSB replied with 16 that
Annie Juergens and
Mari Johnson handled flawlessly for the shutout.
Dodds opened the scoring with a pair of tallies four minutes apart midway through the first period. The latter tally was a shorthanded featuring the first of two Bobrowski assists. Simon then added a solo effort for a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. In the middle session, Bobrowski opened the scoring in the first minutes and closed it with her second of the night with two seconds left in the period. Davidson added a power play marker and it was 6-0 after two.
Zarembinski and Hansen closed out the scoring for HU, which recorded its most lopsided overall margin of victory in 10 years.
The Pipers will look for the sweep when they host the Blazers in their home opener at Oscar Johnson Arena on Friday, November 10. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
