Juergens Caps Perfect Weekend With Second Straight Shutout

Box Score You will be hardpressed to find anybody who had a better weekend that Hamline women's hockey goalie Annie Juergens. The sophomore recorded her second shutout in 20 hours Saturday, kicking out all 19 shots sent her way in the Pipers' 4-0 win over St. Catherine at Drake Arena. Add in the 22 saves she had in Friday's 3-0 win and it is easy to see how Juergens' goals-against average has dropped to a microscopic 0.89, tops in the conference and one of the best figures in college hockey. 

Hamline improved to 6-2 overall and are tied for for first place in the MIAC with a 5-1 league mark. The double shutout weekend (Hamline won 3-0 on Friday) marked another first for the program. the 6-2 overall record is tied with last year's team for the best break from the gate in school history. 

Leah Schwartzman led the offensive attack with a pair of goals and an assist. Bre Simon and Jordan Hansen duplicated their efforts from the night before with solo tallies and an assist.

Schwartzman started the offensive onslaught with a power play goal in the latter stages of the first period. Hamline then broke the game open with three second period markers. Simon and Hansen scored 68 seconds apart and Schwartzman wrapped up the scoring in the Pipers' final MIAC game on the 2017 part of the calendar. The next conference game is January 12, 2018 against Augsburg. 

HU still has games on its docket for next week. The Pipers host Wis-Eau Claire on Tuesday, December 5 at Oscar Johnson Arena. Game time is 7:15 p.m. HU travels to the Twin Ports to face St. Scholastica on Friday, December 8.
