Box Score Darby Dodds was in the middle of the action all night for the Hamline women's hockey team against St. Olaf at TRIA Rink. The senior winger had two goals and four assists as the Pipers overcame a slow start for an 8-1 victory Friday night. The decision stretched the team's school record unbeaten streak to 10 games. HU, rated ninth in the country in the latest d3hockey.com poll, is 12-2-1 overall. Their 7-1-1 MIAC mark has them in first place with 15 points, one ahead of St. Thomas and three up on Concordia and Gustavus Adolphus, who are tied for third place.
The Pipers came out shooting but STO goalie Kaitlyn Pellicci stopped them cold in the first period. Despite a 26-5 edge in shots on goal, Hamline trailed, 1-0, after 20 minutes.
Madison Gaffney evened things 6:17 into the second periods and
Bre Simon got her first of two goals four minutes later to give Hamline a lead. Dodds, who assisted on both of those goals, scored herself at 14:49 and Simon broke free to make it 4-1 by period's end.
In the third period,
Leah Schwartzman, Dodds,
Olivia Arkell and
Madison Kolbow all scored to put the game out of reach. Dodd's six points gave her the MIAC lead with 32 (9 goals, 23 assists).
Sarah Bobrowski added four assists and is second in the scoring race with 31. Simon, who leads the league in goals with 18, is third with 29.
Hamline outshot St. Olaf, 58-10, for the game.
Mckenna Hulslander played the first 45 minutes in goal to earn the win with
Mari Johnson handling duties for the last 15 minutes.
The same teams meet again Saturday, January 20 in Northfield. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
