Box Score The shootout proved to be unkind to Hamline's men's hockey team Saturday night. Officially, the Pipers and St. Olaf played a 2-2 tie at TRIA rink. But the Oles claimed the extra point when they outscored Hamline, 2-1, in the shootout.
HU had a pair of leads in this one.
Drake Hunter gave the Pipers the early when he finished off a pretty three way play with
Tommy Hall and
Kyle Wendorf 2:08 into the game. The Oles, however, tied the game before period's end.
Jaycob McCombs, who was in the middle of action all night, worked his way free for a goal late in the second period for a 2-1 lead. However, St. Olaf tied things a second time in the third period. After the scoreless overtime, things went to the shootout.
Russ Jordan gave HU a quick 1-0 advantage but the next two HU shooters were stymied. St. Olaf slipped two pucks past HU goalie
Evan Robert. As a result, Hamline earned one point and St. Olaf gets two.
HU, now 6-10-2 overall (2-6-2 MIAC) plays at Wis-River Falls next Wednesday, January 24. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
