Box Score There is still a lot of fight left in the Hamline men's hockey team.
Russ Jordan made sure of that Wednesday night.
The senior forward assisted on the team's first two goals and then took matters into his own hands with an unassisted tally with nine seconds remaining in regulation time to lift the Pipers over Wis-River Falls, 3-2, at Hunt Arena.
Evan Robert had 23 saves for Hamline, now 7-10-2 overall.
It was a tight affair from the start. The Falcons struck first but
Brandon Reinholz offset that goal with help from Jordan and
Jaycob McCombs. In the middle session, McCombs scored for the second game in a row to give Hamline a 2-1 lead. The Falcons responded in kind less than two minutes into the final frame. It stayed taut from there with neither team giving in much. Overtime seemed imminent until Jordan's solo effort gave head coach
Cory Laylin a terrific 48th birthday gift.
The three point night lifted Jordan into the team lead in points with 20.
It's back to MIAC action the rest of the way for Hamline. They will take their 2-6-2 MIAC mark into TRIA rink this Friday, January 26 against Bethel. Game time is 7:00 p.m. The teams meet in Blaine the next night, also at 7:00 p.m.
