The HU women's basketball team is taking a liking to playing at Hutton Arena. For the second consecutive game, the Pipers started fast and held their opponents' offense in check all night. On Wednesday, it resulted in a 71-33 win over Northwestern (Minnesota). 13 different Pipers got on the scoresheet with
Kaeli Stayer (12) leading the balanced attack with a dozen points.
Morgen Coleman was close behind with 11 and
Ayanna Gardner added 10. Coleman also did some hearty board work with six, Four players --
Chan'el Anderson-Manning, Stayer,
Molly Wampler and
Sophie Findell were ball hawks with three steals apiece.
In the first two games of the season, HU has 40 thefts.
The Pipers brought their sharpshooting eye to the first quarter, connecting on six three-pointers to break out to a 22-6 advantage after 10 minutes. The margin was 35-19 by halftime. HU opened the third quarter with a 10-2 run and stretched the lead to 24 by quarter's end at 50-26. Both benches emptied in the fourth frame with the Pipers outscoring the Eagles by a 21-7 margin. For the game, HU held UNW to just 24 percent shooting from the field and held a 48-38 edge in rebounds.
Hamline will bid to go 3-0 Friday, November 16 when they welcome North Central (Minn.) to Hutton Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
