They got off to a good start but the Hamline women's hockey team endured their first loss of the season, 2-1, in overtime to Gustavus Adolphus Saturday afternoon at TRIA Rink,
Madison Kolbow got Hamline on the board with her fourth goal of the season 8:02 into the game. Kolbow finished off a three-way play with
Bre Simon and
Leah Schwartzman. The Pipers controlled play for much of the period, outshooting Gustavus, 15-2.
The Gusties charged back in the middle frame to tie the game at 9:52. The visitors pressured HU goalie
McKenna Hulslander with 14 shots but she remained firm. Both teams had chances in the third period to no avail and the teams went to overtime for the second straight day.
The Gusties went on a power play and scored the winner at 2:36. For the game, Gustavus held a 32-31 edge in shots on goal. Kolbow, Simon and
Molly Garin led the attack with four shots apiece. HU is 5-1-0 overall, 3-1-0 in the MIAC.
Hamline is off until November 30 when they face St. Catherine at Drake Arena. Game time is 3:15 p.m. The team meet December 1 at TRIA at 2:00 p.m.
