Chan'el Anderson-Manning recorded her third straight double digit game and
Molly Wampler renewed her acquaintance with the free throw line but Wisconsin-Stout had too much firepower and defeated the women's basketball team, 72-62, Tuesday in Menominee, Wis.
Anderson-Manning scored 14 points and
Reilly Geistfeld added 11 for Hamline, now 3-2 overall after playing their first road game of the season.
After Geistfeld scored the game's first two points, it was often an uphill fight. Wampler, who led the country in free throw shooting percentage last year, hit a pair of tosses in the waning seconds of the first quarter to get HU with 11-9 after 10 minutes. It went back and forth in the second with Geistfeld pushing the Pipers into a 21-18 lead with a three-pointer with 4:33 left. The Blue Devils responded with six points in a row. HU countered and the the team went off at halftime deadlocked at 28.
A pair of Anderson-Manning baskets broke a 30-all tied and propelled Hamline into its biggest lead of the night at 34-30. The Blue Devils came back with a 10-3 run and were never headed again.
Hamline gnawed away at the Blue Devils often, closing within a point on three occasions. But an 8-0 UWS run early in the fourth quarter was too much to overcome.
Morgen Coleman led the 30 rebound effort with seven and Anderson-Manning had three steals.
The Pipers stay on the road November 28 when they visit New Ulm to face Martin Luther. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
