Three outstanding female student-athletes plus a championship football team are the newest members of the Hamline University Athletic Hall of Fame. They will be honored at halftime of the Augsburg-Hamline football game at Klas Field November 10 and feted that night at a sold out dinner at the Klas Center.
Keri Gunderson Goeltl '98 tore up the countryside as a cross country runner. A three-time MVP recipient, she was an Academic All-American from 1994-97 and earned a pair of All-Conference honors. She also excelled in Track and Field, earning a place on three All-Conference teams. Her teammates voted her Most Dedicated three times, Most Inspirational twice as well as a MVP honor. Later, she came back to Hamline as an assistant CC coach for four seasons.
Paula MacDonald Selwold '84 had a phenomenal swimming career. She lettered all four years here and set three school records that stand to this day (500 Free, 1650 Free, 200 Butterfly). She was named an All-American 15 times, including nine times where she finished in the top three at the national meet. (She won the 500 Free in 1983. That same year, she was second in the 200 and 1650 Free races.)
Rebecca Huntosh Urdahl '99 was a stalwart on the gymnastics on the vault, beam and floor events. In her senior season, she set scoring records in the vault and beam. She appeared in three national tournaments, finishing in the top four every time. Her teammates thought so much of her they named her captain in her junior and senior seasons.
The 1988 football team went 9-1 overall, missing a perfect season by a margin of three points (a 41-38 loss at Concordia. The two schools shared the conference championship.) Nine members of that team were named to the All-MIAC First Team with two of them going on to earn All-American status. Five individual members of that team have been inducted into the Hamline Athletic Hall of Fame along with assistant coach Ron Woodbury '73 and head coach Dick Tressel.
