A tough four minute span proved to be the difference for the Hamline women's basketball team in a 63-50 MIAC conference opening loss to Concordia at Hutton Arena Saturday.
Chan'el Anderson-Manning scored 18 points -- a career high -- and
Reilly Geistfeld added 14 as HU fell to 4-3 overall.
The game was tied for the fifth time in the first eight minutes at 12 when CC broke loose on a 14-2 run. The Cobbers pushed the margin to 34-18 but the Pipers responded with three-pointers by Anderson-Manning and
Kaeli Stayer to get within 10. CC then scored the final seven points of the half for a 41-24 advantage at halftime.
Hamline pecked away in the third quarter, outscoring the Cobbers by 16-7 to get within eight at 48-40 with 10 minutes left. But that was close as they could get.
Geistfeld had another strong rebounding game with seven and Stayer added six. The junior forward also had a game high three steals. A hawking defense forced Concordia into 26 turnovers.
The Pipers will look to even the conference slate when they host Augsburg at Hutton Arena on Wednesday, December 5. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
