Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Garin Gets W Hockey Going In Win Over St. Catherine

Hamline freshman women's hockey forward Molly Garin knows how to give a good pass. Her eight assists prove that. On Saturday at TRIA Rink, Garin showed she knows what to do when it is time to shoot. Garin scored the first two goals of the game as Hamline pulled away from St. Catherine, 6-1, for a sweep of their MIAC series. The nationally ranked Pipers improved to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the MIAC by outshooting SCU, 41-8. Three second period and two third period tallies propelled HU to the decision.

Garin, who leads all first year MIAC players with three goals and eight assists for 11 points, provided the only offense of the first period and increased the lead to 2-0 with a power play goal 21 seconds into the second stanza. In both cases, the goals were unassisted. Jordan Hansen made it 3-0 at 2:15 and Bre Simon had a goal and two assists and became the first player in school history to record 100 points.

Hamline salted the game away with goals by Dani Wright and Becca Zarembinski in the third period. Jaela O'Brien got the call in goal, making seven saves to earn her first collegiate win.

This is the last conference game the Pipers will play for six weeks. But they will remain busy with a six-game homestand that extends into the new year. First up: Wisconsin-Superior comes to TRIA on Tuesday, December 4. Game time is earlier than usual: 5:00 p.m.
