Rebounds, Defense Sends Women's BB Over Scots

Four days after showing what they could do offensively, the Hamline women's basketball team turned the other way, using defense and rebounding to overcome Macalester, 58-45, Wednesday ion the latter's court.

Reilly Geistfeld was her usual offensive presence with 15 points. The junior added a career high 15 rebounds for her second double-double in a row to help the Pipers to their second win in a row. Hamline now stands 6-4 overall, 2-2 in MIAC play.

Kaeli Stayer (12) added 11 and Sarah Loken had her second straight double digit scoring game with 10.

HU held the Scots in check from the start, grabbing a 14-6 lead after one quarter. Macalester narrowed it to 25-20 at halftime only to watch Hamline tighten up and push the needle to 38-28 after three quarters. In  the final frame, both team picked up the pace but the Pipers were able to keep Mac at arm's length the rest of the night. Much of that was due to the Hamline bench, which scored 12 of its 23 points on the night in the final 10 minutes of play.

Hamline never trailed, expanding their lead to 17 at one point in the fourth quarter.  For the night, Hamline held a 44-37 edge on the boards. In addition to Geistfeld, Morgen Coleman snapped off six.

Hamline had one game remaining on the 2018 part of the slate. It is Saturday, December 15 against Viterbo at Hutton Arena. Game time is 5:00 p.m.
