Box Score Some nights on the road you have to grind out wins. Such was the case Friday night for the Hamline women's hockey team.
Bre Simon's second goal of the night was the winner as HU outlasted Concordia, 4-3, in Moorhead. The win kept the Pipers in first place in the MIAC with a 10-2-1 loop mark (one point ahead of St. Thomas).
Sarah Bobrowski and
Jordan Hansen (pictured) also scored for the Pipers, who clinched a spot in the MIAC playoffs for the second year in a row and now stand 15-3-2 overall.
The 15 wins ties the school record for wins in a season, set in the 2006-07 season. (HU was 15-9-3 that season.)
It was tough going from the start. Concordia scored first but Bobrowski got that one back on a pass from Simon less than two minutes later. Simon then put HU ahead before the end of the period. The Cobbers answered early in the second period only to see Hansen give the Pipers the lead two minutes later. CC struck again before the end of the period, setting up the climatic final frame.
Simon's second of the night and 24th of the season settled matters for good.
Mckenna Hulslander, who replaced
Annie Juergens in goal late in the second period, stopped all nine shots sent her way to earn the win.
The teams meet again Saturday in Moorhead. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
