Schwartzman Gets Two More Goals in W Hockey Deadlock

Leah Schwartzman continued to have the hot scoring touch but the HU women's hockey team ended up leaving Augsburg Arena all tied up for the second year in a row. Schwartzman had both HU goals in a 2-2 IT tie with the Auggies. 

The deadlock stretched the current unbeaten streak to eight games in a row (6-0-2). Hamline, rated No. 7 in the country in the d3hockey,com Top Ten poll, is 11-1-2 overall. Their 5-1-1 MIAC mark has them in third place with 11 points, one behind Concordia, which tied St. Mary's, 1-1 Friday and one ahead of Gustavus Adiolphus, a 3-1 loser at St. Thomas. 

This game was tight all the way. 

Schwartzman, who was named the MIAC Women's Hockey AOW recipient and to the d3hockey.com Team of the Week, opened the scoring on a three-way play with Dani Perry and Bre Simon 7:40 into the second period. The Auggies, who tied HU 4-4 last year at home, tied the game less than two minutes later. 

Schwartzman then had a solo effort 2:53 into the third period give the Pipers their second lead of the night. The senior forward now has five goals and seven assists in her last four games.The Auggies came back to retie the game a second time and neither team could connect from there. 

McKenna Hulslander had 23 saves in goal for Hamline. Schwartzmad had seven shots on goal with Simon and Madison Gaffney adding six each as part of Hamline's 28 shot fusillade. 

The team will face off again at TRIA Rink on Saturday, January 12 at 1:30 p.m. After the game, it's the annual "Skate with the Pipers" event. Fans can bring their skates or rent them at the arena and take to the ice after the game.
