Molly Garin recorded her first collegiate hat trick as the Hamline women's hockey team tied a school record with a 11-game unbeaten streak after a 5-1 win over St. Olaf Saturday at TRIA Rink.
Bre Simon and
Julia Buffalini also scored for the Pipers, who improved to 14-1-2 overall, 8-1-1 in MIAC play. HU is in second place in the league, two points out of first place.
It took a lot of work, though, as STO goalie Kaitlyn Pellici held the Pipers at bay for quite a while. The Oles grabbed the early lead and held it until 16:13 when Garin finished off a play that started when
Olivia Arkell knocked the puck loose.
Simon, the leading scorer in D-III hockey, broke the tie when she took a
Dani Wright pass and sped in alone for her 16th of the season at 5:35 of the second period. Four minutes later, Garin upped the margin on a three way play with
Katie Carlson and
Madison Kolbow.
In the third period, Buffalini scored her first goal of the year at 2:23 to make it 4-1 and Garin finished off the scoring with her third tally off a Carlson pass.
Hamline, rated No. 7 in the d3hockey.com poll, outshot the Oles, 48-10. HU goalie
McKenna Hulslander had nine saves to earn the victory.
HU returns to action Friday, January 25 against Bethel at TRIA Rink. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
