ST. PAUL, Minn. -  The Hamline women's basketball team (2-0) held off a Northwestern (0-2) comeback to come away with a 62-60 road win over the Eagles. With the win, the Pipers have now won the past two matchups with their Snelling Avenue neighbors.
 
The Pipers had three players finish in double figures, being led by senior 
Kaeli Stayer who drained four threes and four free-throws to end with 16 points. Stayer also contributed with three assists, two blocks and a steal.
 
Senior 
Reilly Geistfeld added 12 points and was two rebounds shy of a double-double, while also recording five steals on the night. First year 
Lydia Lecher chipped in with 11 points, going 5-9 from the field.
 
Hamline jumped out to an early lead, going on a 7-0 run to lead 9-3 early in the first quarter. The Pipers ended the quarter with five straight points to lead 21-10 after the first frame. The Eagles worked their way back throughout the second quarter, getting back within seven at the conclusion of the first half, with the Pipers leading 29-22.
 
HU shot well in the third quarter, posting a 64.3% field goal percentage, while knocking down three of six from deep. Northwestern, however, matched the Pipers, also shooting 64.3% from the field and would outscore Hamline 22-21 to make it a six-point game (50-44) heading into the final quarter.
 
The Eagles started the fourth quarter hot, going on a 9-3 scoring run to tie the game up at 53 apiece. A free throw and a three gave Northwestern a four-point lead, but Hamline answered with a pair of free-throws and a layup of their own to regain the lead, which they would hold onto for the rest of the game. Stayer hit some key free throws down the stretch, going 3-4 from the line in the final 18 seconds to help seal the win.
 
The Pipers will play another non-conference game next, taking on North Central next Tuesday, November 19 at 5:30 p.m.
