ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Hamline women's hockey team (6-3-1, 5-1 MIAC) earned their second straight conference sweep on Saturday afternoon, defeating Bethel (3-6, 2-4 MIAC) by a score of 2-1 at TRIA Rink.
Â
Just like last night's game, neither team was able to score in the first period. The second period, however, was action-packed featuring all three goals in the game. The Pipers were the first to score with a goal from first year
Madison Davis at 5:13. The Royals tied it up at 13:54, but HU took over the lead soon after with a goal from senior
Jordan Hansen. This would be all Hamline would need as they held Bethel to only four shots in the third period, which were all saved.
Â
The Pipers were active offensively in the game, holding a 38-14 shot advantage over the Royals. Sophomore goalie
Jaela O'Brien saved all but one that came her way, ending with 13 saves and her second straight win. She is now 3-2-1 on the season.
Â
Davis' goal, which got the Pipers on the board first, was assisted by first year
Sophie Rausch and senior
Dani Wright. The goal was Davis' second this season.
Â
Courtney Johnston was the one who tallied the goal for Bethel, tying the game at one. This tie would not last long, though, since Hansen would score on a power play less than two minutes later, finishing a passing play from Rausch and sophomore
Molly Garin. Hansen has a total of three goals on the season, getting two of them this weekend.
Â
With the pair of assists, Rausch now leads the Pipers in points with a total of 13 on the season so far. Garin is right behind her with 12 points of her own, which includes a team-leading eight assists.
Â
The Pipers will conclude the 2019 portion of their schedule with a rematch against No. 5 UW-Eau Claire. HU fell to the Blugolds earlier this season, 3-4 on the road. The matchup is scheduled for Tuesday, December 10 at 7:00 p.m. at TRIA Rink.
