Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

W Basketball Finishes Season With Winning Record

Despite an 89-55 loss in their season finale to Bethel at Hutton Arena Saturday, the Hamline women's basketball team wrapped up its best season in years.

The Pipers finished 13-12 overall, its first winning season since the 2012-13 campaign.

HU started strong against the Royals, grabbing a 17-15 lead after a quarter. However, BU (19-6 overall) came back for a 32-12 second quarter advantage to take control of the game.

Chan'el Anderson-Manning finished off her excellent freshman season with a dozen points and three steals. The St. Paul, Minn. native led HU in Steals with 61 and tied with Kaeli Stayer for the top number in assists with 47. Morgen Coleman (5) added 11 points and five boards. Reilly Geistfeld, who is second in the MIAC in scoring at 16.5 points per game, scored just three against the Royals but had a team high six rebounds. In addition to leading HU in points, the junior forward topped the team in rebounds with 212 and Blocked Shots with 21.

The Pipers had a good day at the free throw line, making 15 of 18 tries.

With no seniors on the roster, head coach Alex Focke has plenty of reason to be optimistic as he looks down the road. HU was picked to finish ninth in the coaches' preseason poll and was in contention for a playoff spot on the last day of the season.
