In a little over three months, the Hamline women's basketball team has equaled the number of wins the three previous teams had combined. The Pipers earned their 12th win of the 2018-19 season with a 60-50 triumph at Carleton Saturday afternoon.
Reilly Geistfeld had her seventh double-double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Piper offense. She got plenty of help from
Kaeli Stayer, who fired in 15 points and
Chan'el Anderson-Manning with 10.
Both Geistfeld and Anderson-Manning did a lot of their damage at the free throw line. Geistfeld, who leads the MIAC in scoring and Free Throws Made, connected on nine of 11 attempts from the line. Anderson-Manning added six tosses. For the game, HU was 21-for-31 from the charity stripe while the Knights went 7-for-12.
The Pipers led all the way. HU jumped to a 14-4 first quarter edge and pushed it to 30-22 at halftime. In addition to Geistfeld,
Morgen Coleman and
Sarah Loken garnered six rebounds each to help HU to a final edge of 46-40 in that department.
The win kept the Pipers' MIAC playoff hopes alive. With two games to play, Hamline is tied for seventh place in the conference with a 7-9 mark. (St. Catherine is also 7-9). They are one game behind St. Mary's, who holds sixth place -- the last playoff spot -- with a 8-8 standard. HU will be back in Northfield on Wednesday, February 13 to face St. Olaf. Game time is 7:00 p.m. The regular season finale is against Bethel on Saturday, February 16. Game time is 1:00 p.m. A win in either game would guarantee HU of a final won-loss mark of .500 or better. The last time that happened for a HU women's hoop team was 2012-13 when HU finished 14-12.
