Alex Molloy tossed a five hitter as Hamline opened a 10-game Tucson, Arizona swing with a 3-2 win over St. Mary's (Indiana). The Pipers dropped the second game, 8-0, to Cornell (Iowa) to fall to 5-1 on the season.
Anna O'Connor continued to swing a hit bat for the Pipers. The freshman drilled a two RBI homer to give HU an early 2-0 lead over the Belles. St. Mary's came up with solo runs in the 5th and 6th innings to tie the game but HU came back when
Delaney Kohler tripled and
Riley Husom squeezed her home for the winning run. Molloy, who walked two and struck out four for the win, then worked a 1-2-3 7th inning to gain the win.
In the second game, Cornell used an eight run third inning to deal the Pipers their first loss of the season. Hamline faces Central (Iowa) and Bethany Lutheran Friday in Tucson.
