Pipers Split Free Swinging Baseball DH at Buena Vista

It was a day for offense when Hamline's baseball team took on Buena Vista in Storm Lake, Iowa.

The Pipers outlasted BVU, 7-5, in the opener, but fell to a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth in a 11-10 setback in the nightcap.

Cullen Buck (pictured) had four hits and two RBI in the twinbill. The sophomore has an eight-game hitting streak, going 16-for-41 in the process and raising his batting average 35 points in the process. Nolan Schoonveld scored four runs and Jake Dujmovic had four hits and three RBI for Hamline, which stands 7-8 on the season.

Jimmy Skroch worked out of a ninth inning jam to earn the save, leaving the bases loaded at the finish. Ben Resnick, who worked three innings in relief of Evan Bayer, earned the win.

In thr second game, the Pipers trailed 8-4 after six innings. After scoring an unearned run, HU tied thr game when Dujmovic doubled in one run  and Schoonveld singled in two more. In the eighth, Dujmovic knocked in a run on a fielder's choice to give HU a 9-8 lead. Buck tripled a run home in the ninth but BVU rallied for three in the bottom of the inning to gain the split.
