Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Wins Twice at Oregon Trail

It will be a happy flight home Sunday for the Hamline volleyball team. The Pipers return to Minnesota with a 3-1 mark after defeating Linfield, 3-1, and host George Fox, 3-0, Saturday in Newberg, Oregon.

Despite a 10:00 a.m. starting time, the Pipers were wide awake from the start against Linfield. HU broke out of the gate fast for a 25-14 opening game win. A fierce second game rally fell just short by 25-23 but HU left no doubt in the next two affairs, winning by 25-12 and 25-15. Gabby Robinson smashed out 18 kills (a career high) while Sydney Larson had an impressive double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs. Morgen Coleman drilled five service aces (two short of the school record) and Megan Rubbelke continued to move up the all time assist ladder with 36.

HU hit .252 for the match, including a torrid .312 in the first game.

Later in the day, the Pipers were not very hospitable towards their hosts. Hamline started with a 25-15 win and followed it up with 26-24 and 25-18 conquests to sweep the match. Robinson and Madison Hurrle recorded nine kills apiece to top the offense. Rubbelke had 22 assists and Maggie Gavic completed an impressive first weekend on the back wall with a dozen digs. The freshman had 70 on the weekend, an average of 4.67 per set. Rubbelke finished the weekend ranked fourth in the MIAC at 8.20 assists per set.

Robinson, who led the Pipers with 44 kills on the weekend, was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Pipers will face Knox and Bethany Lutheran on September 6 on Macalester's court.
