Apparently getting the wind at their back was all the Piper women's soccer team needed to get going.
Hamline scored three goals in aa 11 minute span early in the second half and went on to defeat Northwestern (MN), 4-2, Wednesday at windy Paterson Field.
The Pipers evened the overall slate at 4-4 on the season with the come-from-behind triumph.
For most of the first half, HU couldn't muster much of an attack going into a fierce wind. The Eagles scored the only goal of the session but HU was pressing as the session ended. When the second 45 minute period began, that pressure quickly turned into goals.
Ciara Gregory got the first one 89 seconds into the half on a pass from
Carin Currier. Eight minutes later,
Ashlee Olson put Hamline, converting
Jenna Sampson's corner kick. Three minutes later, Sampson found
Siri Parker and it was suddenly a 3-1 game.
Later, Olson boomed a shot from the left side for her second of the game and team leading fourth of the season. The Eagles got a late tally but Hamline kept them at bay after that to secure the win.
Lauren Sicora, who played the second half of the game in goal, earned the win.
Melanie Hopkins stopped two shots in the first half.
Hamline now heads back to MIAC action on Saturday, September 28 at Bethel. The Pipers, who are 1-2 in conference games, face the Royals in the second game of a soccer doubleheader with game time set for 3:30 p.m.
