SUPERIOR, WIS.—The 2021-22 season opener pitted the Hamline University women's hockey team at UW-Superior for a Friday-night showdown. The Pipers converted a 2-for-5 mark on the power play, which was enough to secure them a 2-1 victory over the Yellowjackets.
The Pipers kick-off the season with a 1-0 record, while UW-Superior falls to 3-1.

Both Piper goals occurred in the second period, where they jumped to a 2-0 edge on the power-play. Molly Garin gave the Pipers a 1-0 lead at the 4:01 mark of the second off a feed from Mackenzie Kaasa and Sophie Rausch. Hamline was awarded another power-play opportunity on another body checking call courtesy of the Yellowjackets at 4:49 of the frame. This time, Garin set up Sophie Rausch's goal at 5:03 of the second that made things 2-0.
UW-Superior spoiled the shutout when Megan Dulong notched an extra-attacker goal at 18:21 of the third period that narrowed their deficit to 2-1. Jenna Curtis was credited with the assist.
The Yellowjackets outshot Hamline 27-18. Pipers goalie Ava Bailey made 26 saves in a complete-game win, while McKenzie Whalen tallied 16 saves in 58:39 of work for the Yellowjackets.
The Pipers will host Adrian at TRIA Rink tomorrow, Saturday, November 6 at 2:00 p.m.
