ARDEN HILLS, MINN.—The No. 3 seed Hamline University women's volleyball team traveled to No. 2 seed Bethel University in the 2021 MIAC Semifinal. The Pipers couldn't convert their third-ever MIAC Tournament victory as they dropped a 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 16-25, 25-20) decision to the No. 19 Royals.
Hamline falls to 20-8 while Bethel will advance to the 2021 MIAC Tournament Championship Game at No. 1 seed Gustavus Adolphus tomorrow with a 22-5 record.
Bethel 3, Hamline 1
Four lead changes occurred in the opening set. The Royals grabbed that final lead change when they iced the set with a 3-0 run behind a trio of kills en route to a 25-23 win after trailing Hamline 23-22. Kirsten Cotter's six kills in set two engineered a Bethel team that notched 14 in the frame on a .243 hitting mark, which locked a 25-18 victory and a 2-0 match lead.
The Pipers dug themselves from a 5-1 deficit in set three behind five kills from Sydney Larson, which propelled her team to a 25-16 decision over the Royals to narrow the match to 2-1. A pair of lead changes took place in the fourth set. Trailing 15-13, Bethel took the driver's seat for good with a 6-0 run that gave them a 19-15 cushion, enough to notch a 25-20 victory and 3-1 match win.
Sydney Larson tallied a team-leading 12 kills for Hamline, followed by Rachel Rettmann's 11 and Brynn Hendrickson's 10. Megan Rubbelke tallied 32 assists along with 15 digs. Jenna Rubbelke tallied 17 digs, while Hendrickson was dominant at the net with five blocks. Kirstin Cotter notched a game-high 17 kills for Bethel.
