HU drains 13 threes in 69-57 win over Concordia

MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Hamline women's basketball team (2-3, 2-1 MIAC) connected on 13 threes on Thursday night on their way to a 69-57 road win over Concordia Moorhead (2-3, 2-2 MIAC).

This is the second game in a row that the Pipers have hit double-digit threes, as they drained 12 in Tuesday's win over Augsburg. In tonight's game, HU made 56.5% of their threes throughout the game, which included going 5-5 in the second quarter and 4-4 in the fourth quarter. They shot 43.1% from the floor overall.

Concordia was held to more modest shooting percentages, making 36.8% of their shots from the field and only 20.0% from beyond the arc. They did outscore Hamline in points off of turnovers, forcing 16 turnovers during the game, which they converted into 16 points.

First year Jaiden Kline continued her strong start to her Hamline career, scoring a team-high 18 points, which is a new career-best for the Osseo native. Her 18 points were also incredibly efficient as she made seven of her nine field goals (77.7%), including hitting all four of her three-point attempts.

Rookie teammate Larisa O'Neil also went 4-4 from three, reaching double figures for the second game in a row, this time with 12 points. Sophomore Tess Hauer was two rebounds shy of a double-double, putting up 11 points and eight rebounds and junior Sophie Findell was the final Piper in double digits, with 10 points.

The first quarter was a close one, as neither team was able to lead by more than four points throughout the period. A last-second layup by the Cobbers allowed them to take a three-point lead (18-15) into the second quarter.

In the second, the Pipers took control of the game, as they used an 11-0 run to put themselves up by 12 at 34-22 with only 1:30 left in the quarter. Concordia would score five of the last eight points, which put Hamline ahead 37-27 at halftime.

The Pipers continued their strong defensive play in the third quarter, again only allowing nine points throughout the frame. HU scored 13 and would take a 14-point edge (50-36) into the final 10 minutes.

The Cobbers scored the first four points of the final quarter, cutting Hamline's lead to 10, but the Pipers answered with a 14-2 run to stretch their lead to 22 with four minutes to play. From there, they were able to withstand a late run from Concordia, holding on to a 69-57 victory.

Hamline will finish up their busy week of play with a Saturday game against Saint Mary's at Hutton Arena. Follow along with the action, using the links to live video and stats, available on the women's basketball schedule page.
