HU wins six events in indoor finale at Bethel

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Hamline men's track and field team finished the indoor portion of their 2021 season on Saturday morning, winning six events and compiling 13 finishes in the top-three in a dual meet at Bethel.
 
The Pipers swept the top-three spots in the 60-meter dash, as first year Bobby Moua won the race, tying his season-best time at 7.23 seconds. Junior Christian Velishek and first year Tae'Vion Wilkins tied for second place, with a time of 7.45. Moua also took second in the 200-meter dash, putting up a new season-best time (23.87).
 
Hamline also had two winners in some of the longer runs, with junior Tyler Gallagher winning a tight 800-meter race with a time of 2:04.24. The second-place finisher was just .74 seconds behind. In the mile run, junior Aric Brodie beat seven other competitors with a time of 4:30.68. First years Rune Lee-Kolhoff (5:11.18) and Michael Motzko (5:11.41) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the same race.
 
First year Jeremy Davie (9:49.76) and junior Thomas Razidlo (10:19.91) placed second and third in the 3000-meter race and in the 400-meter run senior Matt Lorah (54.83) added a fourth-place finish for HU with first year Raul Ortiz (55.77) not far behind in fifth.
 
In the field events, Velishek won the high jump and first year Michael Braun won the long jump. Velishek hit 1.90 meters in the high jump, with Braun reaching 1.80 meters in the same event. In the long jump, Braun leaped 5.93 meters to win the event, with teammate Thomas Amberg coming in second with a distance of 5.78 meters.
 
Senior Joe Martin won the shot put for HU with a distance of 16.79 meters. First year Josh Lynch added a second-place finish in the pole vault, reaching a height of 3.80 meters on the day.
 
The Pipers were the only ones to enter a 4x200 relay team in the meet, as the combination of Zach Angstman, McKail Hertzog, Josh Peterson, and Wilkins finished the race in 1:36.41.
 
Hamline will now look ahead to the outdoor part of their season. The outdoor schedule will be available soon as more details become available.
