WAVERLY, Iowa - The men's track and field team sent two student-athletes to compete at the Elite Meet at Wartburg that took place this weekend, as senior
Joe Martin finished the indoor season with another win in the shot put, posting a new career-best, and
Christian Velishek took fourth in the high jump.
Â
Taking on some of the country's best track and field athletes did not phase Martin, as he tallied a new personal-best distance of 17.34 meters on his first attempt. This mark would hold up for a first-place finish and ranks third-best in the country right now.
Â
Velishek was close to matching his season-best in the meet, getting to 1.92 meters in the high jump for a fourth-place finish. Earlier this year, he reached 1.93 meters in a meet with Bethel.
Â
Martin and Velishek will now look ahead to the outdoor season that is set to begin in early April.
