ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Hamline University men's track and field team competed in the second and final day of the MIAC Championships on Saturday afternoon, with senior
Joe Martin winning the shot put with a distance of 17.11 meters.

Martin's season-best distance of 17.20 meters currently ranks in the top-five in the country.

Joining Martin with All-Conference honors was senior
Fernando Benitez, who placed third in the 5000-meter run, with a time of 14:52.27.

Two other Pipers scored on day two, as first year
Josh Lynch and junior
Christian Velishek each tallied seventh-place finishes. Lynch was seventh in the pole vault with a height of 4.12 meters and Velishek was seventh in the javelin with a mark of 51.03 meters, which was a new career best.

Sophomore
Sam Dabrowski also competed in the javelin for HU, crushing his previous career best with a mark of 47.49 meters, which was good for 11
th place.

Junior
Aric Brodie was the final individual to compete, placing 12
th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:19.96.

In the two relay events of the day, Hamline recorded two ninth-place finishes. In the 4x100 meter race,
Michael Latham,
Tae'Vion Wilkins,
Carter Kienholz, and Velishek teamed up to finish in 43.59. The 4x400 relay team of
Matt Lorah, Kienholz,
Raul Ortiz, and Velishek compiled HU's fastest time of the year, finishing in 3:31.65.

As a team, the Pipers placed ninth out of 11, with 27 points. St. Thomas won the championship with 214.5 points and Saint John's was second with 135.
