STEVENS POINT, WIS.—The Hamline University women's soccer team opened the season with their second-straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opponent on Sunday, when they faced UW-Stevens Point on the road. The Pipers outshot UW-Stevens Point 17-16 in the match, and held leads of 1-0 and 2-1. It wasn't enough to get into the win column as Hamline dropped a 4-3 decision.

Six of the seven goals scored in the contest occurred in the first half. Catie Regan set the tone for the Pipers with a goal in the 10th minute to make the score 1-0. The Pointers struck back in the 21st-minute off Kati Frierdich's tally that knotted the game at 1-1. Anna Browne answered 28 seconds later with a tally that gave Hamline a 2-1 lead before the Pointers closed the half with three goals en route to a 4-2 halftime edge.
Ku Gay Tha picked up her first collegiate point in the 54th minute when she assisted on Cailey Schmitt's goal to narrow Hamline's deficit to 4-3, where the score went final.
Lauren Sicora and Emma Mohs each notched 45:00 of action in net for Hamline, and combined for five saves. Miranda Nieman stopped nine shots in a complete-game effort in goal for UW-Stevens Point. Maya Dempsey and Emily Hillis each peppered four shots for the Pipers.
Hamline will return to action at home on Thursday, September 9 against Whitworth at 4:00 p.m.
