NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Hamline University women's basketball team completed a season-sweep of St. Olaf with a 57-44 drubbing in Northfield, Minnesota on Saturday.
The Pipers improve to 13-4, 11-3 MIAC, while the Oles fall to 6-12, 5-10 MIAC. The 11 MIAC victories is the most for a Hamline team since the 2012-13 season, when they finished the season with a 14-12, 14-8 MIAC mark.
Hamline 57, St. Olaf 44
The Oles gave Hamline a run for their money in the opening frame as they held a 16-13 advantage. Gabby Robinson would give Hamline the lead for good with her free throw that made the score 22-21 with 4:13 left in the second quarter, where things ended with a 27-24 score. The Pipers' huge 21-4 third quarter gave them enough cushion in a 57-44 victory.
Eleven Pipers found the score column, led by Sophie Findell's 12 points, followed by Lydia Lecher's 11. Hamline's defense was firing on all cylinders, as they held St. Olaf to just 16-of-54 (.296) shooting and a 5-of-24 mark (.208) from three-point range. Rachel Kelly led the Oles with 10 points.
The Pipers will host St. Scholastica on Wednesday, February 2 at 7 p.m.
