SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's basketball team made the short trip to Macalester for the 2021-22 regular-season finale on Wednesday night. The Pipers responded from a 55-50 deficit with 4:06 left in the fourth quarter thanks to a 9-0 run that sealed them a 59-55 victory.
The Pipers close the regular season with an 18-6, 16-5 MIAC record, while Macalester falls to 8-17, 6-16 MIAC. No. 4 seed Hamline will host the MIAC Quarterfinal against an opponent to be determined on Tuesday, February 22 at 7 p.m. Hamline's 18 wins also ties a single-season record that was achieved during the 1985-86 season.
Hamline 59, Macalester 55
The contest saw Macalester lead or tie for 32:32 out of 40:00. The final 4:09 of the bout belonged to Hamline, as three-pointers from Larisa O'Neil and Lydia Lecher engineered a 9-0 run that brought their team back from a 55-50 deficit en route to a 59-55 victory.
Lecher paced Hamline with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting along with eight rebounds. Gabby Robinson, who also shot 6-of-9, added eight points for the Pipers.
Macaletser was led by Celine Sabbagh's 15 points, while Emma LaFenz pulled down 15 rebounds and scored nine points.
