Beavers Sweep Pipers in Omaha

OMAHA, NEB.—The Hamline University baseball team squared-off against Buena Vista (DH) in a neutral-site twin bill in Omaha, Nebraska on Sunday afternoon. The Beavers tagged the Pipers for a pair of 13-run games en route to 13-5, and 13-3 victories.

Hamline falls to 0-3, while Buena Vista improves to 3-0.

Buena Vista 13, Hamline 5 (Game One)

A big seven-run Buena Vista fourth inning powered them to a 9-1 lead through six innings. The Pipers' lone run in that window occurred in the third inning, where Stephen Schmidt led off with a double before he came around to score on Mac Enlow's double that tied the game 1-1.

The seventh inning resulted in four runs for Hamline courtesy of RBI-singles from Max Gerstner and Mac Enlow (two); as well as Tyler Johnson's sacrifice fly that cut their deficit to 9-5. The Beavers closed the door with four ninth-inning runs to lock a 13-5 victory.

Enlow led Hamline at the plate with a 2-for-4 day that included three RBI. The Pipers utilized six pitchers in the contest, as starter Zach Branson was tagged with the loss over 3 2/3 innings pitched. The Hamline pitching staff accumulated 11 strikeouts.

Buena Vista 13, Hamline 3 (Game Two)

A fast Buena Vista start was too much for Hamline to overcome as a five-run first inning was enough cushion in a 13-3 victory.

Owen Christenson knocked in all three Pipers runs on a 2-for-2 day at the plate, that included one double. Tyler Johnson scored two of those runs, and went 2-for-5 at the plate. Caden Erickson turned in a 2-for-4 outing at the plate for the Pipers.

The Beavers touched the Hamline pitching staff for 16 hits. The Pipers utilized four pitchers as Braden Schneider, Max Gerstner, Ryan Conn and Dalton Maxwell combined for 11 strikeouts.

The Pipers will return to action on Tuesday, March 1, when they face Crown (DH) at US Bank Stadium for a 9:30 p.m. game time.
