Women's Basketball Ends Record-Setting Season in MIAC Tournament Semifinal

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.—The No. 4 seed Hamline University women's basketball team made the short trip to top-seeded Augsburg in their first-ever MIAC Tournament Semifinal appearance on Friday evening. The Pipers led for a majority of the contest, which included a 13-point 46-33 cushion with 6:29 left in the third quarter. The fourth quarter belonged to Augsburg as they outscored Hamline 28-17, capped by Anja Smith's six points within the final 0:44 of regulation that sealed a 75-72 win.

The Pipers conclude their record-setting season with a 19-7 overall record, the most wins in school history. The Auggies advance to Sunday's MIAC Tournament Championship Game against No. 2 seed Gustavus Adolphus with a 21-5 overall record.

Augsburg 75, Hamline 72

The Auggies took their first lead since early in the second quarter with 0:44 remaining in regulation off Anja Smith's three-pointer that made things 72-71 before they fouled Sophie Findell nine seconds later, where she converted one-of-two free throws to knot the game at 72-72. This gave Augsburg possession with 0:30 on the clock, and proceeded to drain it to 0:07 as Smith converted a layup followed by an and-one free throw shot to seal a 75-72 win for the Auggies.

Hamline shot a season-high .510 (26-of-51) from the floor, led by Lydia Lecher's 24 points off 9-of-14 shooting. Tess Hauer contributed 16 points and seven rebounds, while Chan'el Anderson-Manning added 15 points for the Pipers. Smith finished the game with a team-best 21 points off the bench for Augsburg, while Jen Masello added 19 points and nine rebounds.

The Pipers bid farewell to seniors Gabby Robinson, Paige Condie, Sophie Findell, Lindsey Bernardy, and Sarah Loken.
